Trading in local chat: the madness
i cannot believe what i have just seen in kamadan and it's seriously sad to see and from it came the follow conversation, it's just the essential but it'll do to make people sure of this madness
red: me
black: the asshole that's spamming trade in local chat
blue: random people
long story short: i tell him that he has to use trade chat for his trade and he starts cussing and yelling at me because i tell him how it has to be done
seriously, wtf
where is the borderline between good and bad
atm he's still screaming at me in capslock in kamadan dist2 so it's a live debate on the EULA policy regarding trade spam
he's just cussing in capslock thinking he's the big chief

How many threads do you need to express the stupidity of people?

Yeah, pet hate of mine is people spamming trade in local chat. I just report them if they keep doing it. We may be nerds, but there are rules for a reason...lol

With the greatest of respect its not 100% the fault of stupid people, there is also the frustration of the way trading has to be done.
The trading channel sounds good till you realise just how fast messages are generated there.
Messages are flying up the screen and your sales pitch is well gone in seconds unless you repeat it every 10 seconds or so which adds to the problem.
After an hour of this you start thinking what I need is to reach a wider audience where there is less competition.
Where is that why general chat of course
It's not right and its not good for the game but its as much borne of frustration as stupidity.
A reasonable method of selling has long been needed and this will continue into GW2 unless its addressed.
Sadly the only way it's got a hope of being addressed is threads like this one which although boring at least make sure anet know the traders want change and are not going away any time soon.

demand is low right now and if they don't want it in party search they're not gonna want it in local chat, offcourse a message can slip but spamming local chat with trade will just create a second trade channel and that won't be looking good together with the recruiting and random conversations of the players

It sounds to me like that person thinks that there won't be any consequences for breaking the rules and that there's nothing you can do about it.
Why even argue with the loser? Let them know that they've been reported and then, for the ones who shout abuse, report 'em again and then apply the lovely "Ignore" feature.
Edit: Gremlin, well said! But, to reach a wider audience there's always the PS window. It's not a great solution to the trade system problems, but it is better than trying to read the barrage of messages flying across the chat channel. Most people I know don't even bother trying to read the trade spam, they just pop open PS and browse through that instead.

Actually, to reach that conclusion requires a COMBINATION of frustration and stupidity. !All chat is not a wider audience, it is limited to your district. $Trade spans districts. And we have a trade list in "Search" now.
Maybe after an hour, it's simply that no one wants what they are selling.

Man did you hit the nail on the head. I'm betting person saying it was also a kid and didn't care who they upset. I have started ignoring all chats unless I am looking for something or need to talk to someone.

It's definitely annoying and one of my main reason for staying in the International districts.

I never liked being in any district except American.
American Districts = cheap entertainment.

Rather than addressing the root problem, that there is no trade system, you instead:

I dont see much trade spam in local when i do its the odd time.
Infact I dont see much of anything worth reading in local and that screenshot proves it.
Its nothing but random blurbs , the odd WTS and the haters who sit there and police the place like as if something worth reading was being said in local.
You could even argue that the trade messages are more valuable and in line with the game then people spaming local with jibberish that has nothing to do with the game.
